These items were shipped to Costco distribution centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, and Washington, and may have been further distributed to Costco retail locations. The recall is classified as Class I high or medium risk, which the agency defines as having “a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.” So far, there have been no confirmed reports of injury associated with the chicken patties, but the agency believes the hard plastic pieces could be sharp and possibly cause injury. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers Complained of Hard Clear Plastic Embedded in Chicken Patties
The fully-cooked frozen breaded chicken breast patties were produced on August 11, 2022. The recall includes patties packaged in 80 ounce (oz) plastic bag packages containing 20 pieces of “Chicken Patties Breaded Chicken Breast Patties with Rib Meat” with the best-by date 08/11/23, establishment number P-33901, and lot code 3*2223** in inkjet print on the back edge of the packaging, as well as 7527899724 under the barcode. The problem was identified when Foster Farms notified the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) that it had received consumer complaints reporting hard clear plastic embedded in the patties. Because the product is sold frozen and contains 20 patties, FSIS is concerned that people may be storing the chicken in their freezers. Anyone who has purchased this product should not consume it — these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
